Location: London, E16 & project site based. Some degree of working from home is possible but the majority of the work is site based.
Employment: Full-time. We are open to part time and job share applications.
Salary: £45 - 48,000 p.a. depending on experience.
Hours: 08.30-17.30 with an hour for lunch.

Role Introduction

Yes Make is looking for an experienced Designer-Maker to join our tight knit, friendly and highly driven team. This is a role for someone who is as comfortable getting stuck into the physical making of structures as they are on a computer.

You will play a key role in our team at Tipping Point East, London’s largest circular economy construction hub, taking projects from concept and design development through to technical detailing, fabrication and installation. Material reuse is at the heart of our practice and this role will go to someone with the drive and passion for circular materials as well as the skills and experience. 

The role will involve substantial practical making and fabrication, so we are looking for someone with strong workshop skills and significant experience of physically building medium to large-scale structures. The successful candidate will be able to move confidently between Rhino, the workshop, construction sites and client meetings.

You will work closely with the wider Yes Make team, clients, designers, suppliers and subcontractors, helping to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, to a high standard and with the maximum practical use of reclaimed and reused materials.

Using reclaimed materials as our starting point we find creative ways to work across design, fabrication and installation, often taking projects from an initial idea through technical design and prototyping to workshop fabrication and final installation on site.

Who We Are Looking For

Our team is a bunch of diverse problem solvers who work closely together but each person is also able to work independently, accepting the fluid nature of a start-up. We are looking for someone who not only can fit with that but wants to and who genuinely enjoys making things. You will be a practical grafter who understands that good design has to work in the real world. You should be as comfortable on the tools as you are with a knife and fork while also being able to step back and manage the technical, financial and logistical aspects of larger projects.

Our team is curious about materials and processes and are willing to challenge conventional approaches to construction. Our work often involves finding new uses for existing materials, adapting designs around what is available and finding ways to make things with less waste.

The role requires someone who can take responsibility, communicate clearly and work collaboratively, while being comfortable leading a team when required.

Technical qualifications are great but if you can show us your abilities and experience in the required areas we don’t expect you to have a degree.
